Bio
Previously serving as the California Medical Association’s (CMA) President, Theodore Mazer, M.D., is a board-certified otolaryngologist who has been working in a small, solo practice in San Diego for more than 25 years.
A CMA member since 1988, Dr. Mazer served on the association’s Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2010, speaker of the house from 2013 to 2016, and has chaired various committees, including those focusing on medical services and access to specialty care.
After graduating from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University in 1983, Dr. Mazer completed his residency at the Baylor College of Medicine Hospital in 1988.
He is a member of the Alvarado Hospital Medical Center, where he has served as chief of staff, and belongs to various professional societies, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the San Diego County Medical Society, where he also served as president.
Dr. Mazer serves as consultant to the Alvarado Hospital Medical Executive Committee and is a member of the Physicians Advisory Commission at Anthem, where he was initially appointed by the CMA after settlement of the RICO lawsuits.
He was previously a director of the San Diego IPA, and was a founder and director of Specialty Associates Medical Management, Inc. and San Diego Surgical Specialists Medical Group, Inc. He also served with the East County Physicians Medical Group/Mercy Physicians Medical Group IPA as the group’s medical director, and presently serves as a director with Scripps Mercy Physicians Partners messenger model IPA, involved with integrative support services for small and medium practices.
